I had this firm representing me in 2018 over a separation in the beginning my lawyer promised the world due to all the proof of money I invested in the property and renovations after changing lawyers on me twice which I saw as an underhanded tactic to essentially charge for different lawyers to go over the same work anyway they told me I should me looking at over 100k in the end at a mediation it settled around 30k or court costs would eat into anything more I gained to continue my legal bill were 25k now they had 90 days to remove my from title and loan now it’s 2024 I’ve gone to the bank for a loan on a house to find out I’m still on and responsible for the property settlement I thought I had settled and paid for with this firm so when I’ve contacted Butler McDermott to find out what the hell and why the matter I paid them for has not been dealt with in 5 years they told me they would contact the other party and look into the matter so they have emailed and sent a letter to contact other party then told me I would need to sign a new client agreement to start charging me I flat out refused and sort new representation. Now I’ve received an invoice for over $700 to get in contact with the other party which in my knowledge consisted of email to there attorneys to find out they no longer represented them and then a letter to the other party directly when I queried these charges and said I don’t think I am actually liable since I refused to sign a new client agreement I was told the charge stands they did the work and if I don’t pay it will just go to credit collection and affect my credit rating.
