Using Craig van der Hoven at Creevey Russell Lawyers was the best decision I could have made. Very fast resolution with minimal effort on my part, the man uses very positive language and explained the whole process in a way that I could easily understand. I am a 72 yr old disability Pensioner that was homeless and living out of my car with my beautiful Bluey, whilst I underwent a lengthy Cancer treatment; over a year ago. The Department of Housing put me up in a toxic unit out west of Toowoomba, where I was stalked, harassed and assaulted by a drunken repeat offender. The Police listened to his lies and charged me with assault in Nov 2021.
A legal Aid solicitor from a local firm attended the Police station that day and made grand promises of how Great they were and that they had never lost a case. By mid Feb 2022, I had to self represent at the first court hearing, as that Firms Solicitor Jess, went west for another job without lodging my Legal Aid application. I applied to Legal Aid for new solicitors and was advised to stay with this duty lawyer firm. (DON'T DO IT/)
So I was assigned this same Solicitor Firm to defend me via Legal Aid and the young solicitor admitted she had never practiced criminal law. I told her I had been stalked, assaulted and provoked and I wished to use Provocation and my self defence to run the case!! I asked her to approach the prosecutors with a submission stating that as Provocation is a legal remedy in QLD when proven, I would accept a Public nuisance charge. She came back and said that Prosecution would only downgrade the charge from Serious assault of a person over 60; to common assault. I refused on the basis that she wanted me to plead guilty when I was innocent In the Court Brief, the assailant had admitting to drinking a third of a bottle of Scotch and consuming Valium before the alleged assault of me, where he had struck me first.. He further admitted not remembering if I hit him!!
I applied to Legal Aid for a new Solicitor and I was given the extremely competent Craig Van der Hoven of Creevey Russell Law, on or about Mid May 2022. Craig was patiently professional (he would listen) yet firm and sure with his advices and I appreciated his very sound and analytical mind. He never once rushed our tele conference and he accepted my instructions as how to approach our submission to the Prosecutor.
Within 3 weeks he had put our submission by phone to the Prosecutor and he came back with all charges discontinued based on the conflicting evidence and and that we would accept an infringement Notice for Public Nuisance.
Craig is a consummate professional, honest and approachable. I would award 6 stars if possible. Thanks Craig.
