Housed in an old historic Methodist church, somehow the message coming from the flood lit building offers a lot more enticement than ever before.
A small but adequate menu to satisfy all tastes and dietary requirements.
Started with, Salad of roast beetroot, star anise confit orange, Shadows of blue, barley & pecan dressing. This was sensational.
For mains, the 600g Wagyu special was suggested, so I immediately closed my menu selection folder. It was cooked to perfection.
I had 2 desserts, sticky date and affogato to finish. Very satisfying night!
A big shout out to the 2 friendly, knowledgeable staff who did a magnificent job. There were 2 large tables for them to attend but at no time passing me or the other guests by. Love your work

Pipers is an oasis in the heart of the Coonawarra Wine Region.
The perfect way to complete a day sampling the regions wines is to treat yourself and eat here.
The food and service is excellent and the wine list is extensive and impressive featuring many Coonawarra and International wines.
Erika and Simon Bowen run this exceptional restaurant and there is a reason that they have won so many awards year after year for the last 18 years.

The meal was absolutely delicious with entrees of roasted Abrolhos half shell scallops in garlic & herb dressing .. mouthwatering. Our mains were fantastic with grilled Spencer gulf kingfish with prawn, saffron & Pernot, book choy & fennel ..absolutely delicious & the braised leek tortellini, pesto dressing with zucchini ribbons .. gorgeous .. also a lovely side serve of delicious smoked kipfler roasted potatoes. A couple of glasses of local red sparkling wine from Majella winery.
We topped off an amazing dinner with sugared Italian doughnut .. a beautiful night was had & front of house was amazing .

Fabulous service, drinks and absolutely amazing food. Just the right serving sizes. We had three courses and were definitely full. The prawns special was Devine and the Italian doughnut amazing. Can highly recommend booking a table in Penola.

A faultlessly prepared delicious meal. Problem deciding which dish. The fish and two veg dishes this time. The scallops are so very good. A number of visits required. A piece of house bread and butter a nice inclusion not often found. With the cheese some dried fruit, more paste, would be nice as the blue cheese is quite a strong one.

Absolutely superb from start to finish , always a pleasure. This was our last meal at Pipers as residents of Penola for the last 20 years we have been so blessed to have had a world class restaurant literally around the corner.
The wonderful partnership of Erica who is the most incredible , professional front of house and Simon the multi talented chef have created Pipers and maintained the high standard that has never deviated over the 20 years since they opened.
We will miss them and hope to return soon as visitors to Penola.

We are a party of 6 and have been touring the Coonewara wine region for the past few days.
We visited Pipers of Penola restaurant twice over the week and were really impressed with the high quality of food , clearly prepared by their excellent chef , Simon. In addition to the wonderful dishes we each ordered , Pipers also offers a large selection of local wines. But above all the exceptional service from our lovely servers , Isabel and Erika was so professional and personable. They were both extremely knowledgeable and attentive and made our evenings so special. We will definitely go back to Pipers of Penola again next time we visit Coonewara.
