This is a review of me dealing with Stephen Wawn & Associates Lawyers that went from July 2023 to June 2024. I spoke to a man by the name of Adam. It was a situation regarding a neighbour complaint regarding their dog urinating, defecating odour and barking within a Strata scheme, I wasn't able to handle it on my end because my neighbour took out a provisional AVPO on me. I was told that they will write a letter to the strata managers and that the cost of the work is $550. I agreed and transferred the trust to their account; they then replied to me with the deposit receipt so that means work will definitely be commenced. A few weeks gone by and i received no update so i sent an email to Adam requesting an update, I had no response. I sent another email 4 days later and still no reponse. So i had called them and then i got a call from a man named Daniel saying my emails went to junk mail. So i gave it a few more weeks and still nothing. So by then its been 5 weeks since i made contact with Stephen Wawn & Associates Lawyers in order for them to write a simple letter to my strata manager at the cost of $550 and they have done nothing nowithstanding the excuse of saying the email went to junk mail because who wants to wait 5 weeks for a simple letter to be written that would take no more than an hour because I only needed to pay an hours billing rate. They were aware about this job for 5 weeks. Now, because i decided to no longer want to go ahead with the job because they haven't done anything and the issue with the neighbour somewhat resolved on its own they decided to charge me $165, including gst, as an "instruction fee". This instruction fee was never discussed with me prior and that they're taking $165 out of the $550 which was specifically agreed upon for writing that letter to strata, nothing else. Apparently the standard instruction fee is $200 plus gst but they lowered the price, i wondered why? Maybe because they know they mishandled my job and wanted to smooth things over? I told them i dont think its a fair charge and i suggest i would accept $100 so they got back to me and charged me $100 plus gst so it comes down to a total of $110; but with an added 'no prejudice clause'. I didn't know what no prejudice exactly meant but upon some research it basically means im not allowed to talk about them in a negative light or write a complaint about them. Seeing how they included that clause and given their prior unsatisfactory work i have come to the conclusion these are people of no integrity so i no longer engage with such people and took the complaint to OLSC. The OLSC didn't agree with me so i accepted to pay the full amount of $165 so i can one day when i have time write this 1 star review. The matter between me and Stephen Wawn & Associates Lawyers was finalised in mid 2024, a year after this all started, with me accepting a refund of $385 and $165 going into Stephen Wawn & Associates Lawyers.

The whole experience simply added more undue stress to myself. It took an entire year for this to settle, all this because they agreed to take on a simple job but refused to actually complete it.

I want to also add that i don't believe that the junk mail excuse was true and even if it was true, any experienced working professional would know to check their junk mail folder regularly.

All in all, given the context of everything that happened. I am utmost dissatisfied with the service of these people. I don't recommend people use these lawyers if its a small and easy job. I assume my job wasn't worth their time but it would be an easy way to get my money.
