As a local to Katoomba of 34 years, I have never given a business a 1 star review.

My recent experience with Benetatos & White and the new owner in regards to a probate and an undischarged mortgage has left me exhausted and stressed.

As I was very underwhelmed by their performance, time it took as well as charges, I emailed the new owner of this business, to give him the opportunity to respond to my concerns.

In his response he threatened me on several occasions to take me, his client, to court.

As a client of this firm since 2012, I was shocked to be treated in this way.

After posting a negative review, we finally received some paperwork in regards to our matter.

To the response regarding my 1 star review:

No solicitor with integrity would tolerate abuse and would cease to act for such client.

In February 24 we engaged our trusted local conveyancer to remove our matter from this solicitor firm.

It was clear that this office was trying hard to retain us as clients and actively discouraged us from leaving.

This does not sound like the office barred us.

We were told that we were not able to use any searches/work this office had done even after full payment!

We had no confidence that the matter could be finalised in a satisfactory manner by Benetatos & White.

To this day we are disgusted by the behaviour displayed by this law firm.

Our own legal papers were witheld from us well after our final payment.

The new owner received a email, informing him that I felt uncomfortable entering the office and he would have to mail our legal papers.

He proceeded to sent numerous emails demanding more money so he could take copies from our personal papers to retain for his office!

The original are ours and no normal legal service would retain such copies.

My partner and I have always conducted ourselves in a professional manner.

We strongly reject any friviolous allegations by the owner of the business.

Clearly, we will now have to take the matter legally forward.

With bemusement, we also noticed an influx of sudden 5 star reviews for this business.

I was not intending to leave a review but after being falsely accused, along with Ms G.Koch, of never paying our bills, poor communication and wanting 'free service', I have to set the record straight here. 3 wills in 2012 and a later amended will were paid on the spot all at time of signing. $550 each time, perhaps one received a senior's discount, I can't speak for the deceased. In the recent matter $2238.44 was paid in various amounts immediately each time as requested, when requested, in the office. The final amount of $9638.58 was paid within a few days of receipt of the invoices following clarification of a large amount which gave the appearance of still resting in BW's trust account.

At one stage, when we wanted to leave we were told we'd have to pay $6390.18 in addition to the $2238.44 already paid and would have to start the process all over again, effectively wasting $8628.62.

Between a rock and a hard place, we felt we had no other choice but to stay with the firm. No further payments were requested until final settlement.

The only time we did not respond promptly to communication was one occasion when BW knew we were away and their email went into spam.

Michelle worked tirelessly to prepare and submit my reponse to my Ex’s application to the family court in an extraordinarily limited window of time.
