Three years after finishing the build of our forever home, we discovered we had some fairly serious and costly non-compliant plumbing work. Absolutely awful experience. To be screwed over by a builder then be let down by a lawyer was costly and heartbreaking. Based on other reviews the firm’s principal may herself be great, and certainly her sales pitch was great, but beware the small print that says another lawyer may be handling your file. The lawyer I ended up with appeared more concerned with filling her emails with legal disclaimers than actually pulling all the pieces together to secure a good commercial outcome for her client. Very poor communication. I’m a big fan of emails, but occasionally you’ve also got to get on the phone and have a conversation with your client, particularly when things get rocky and the only way your client can talk to you is by making an appointment. One of the worst lawyers I have ever dealt with from a relationship management viewpoint and I have dealt with many professionally. The building consultant Boutique recommended couldn’t even meet his own timeline or fix the errors in his report quickly, yet this was apparently of no concern to Boutique (all covered in the small print). The cost agreements are difficult to navigate and not as simple as presented on the website. You start on a fixed fee for service and soon the only option is an hourly rate with invoices that exceed estimates without explanation or an end in sight. Just awful.
