Charters Towers, the town where animal cruelty is applauded by the masses. Leave the flying fox alone. They come to town, they hang round for a bit and then they leave. This has been happening for years. Stop stressing them out. Leave them be.

Extraordinary practice for the local flying fox colony by this council group for Charter Yowers. They've been using pyrotechnic tools to scare and move on the nesting animals and has resulted in many flying foxes being killed. It's pretty cruel and unusual.

1080 baiting is an outdated practice, driven by those few with a vested interest. There is an overwhelming body of independent research to support 1080 poison in the environment is an ecological disaster. It kills indiscriminately all types of Native Australian Wildlife, like birds of prey, kookaburras, magpies, lizards, also domestic animals, working dogs and even humans if exposed. Animals die slow and agonising deaths. Any council that continues to use 1080 poison demonstrates a total lack of responsible land management and poor custodians of the environment.

I live in Charters Towers, 2022/08/31 at 4 p.m. Four students passed me, one of the boys on the scooter shouted ching chong, ching chong, their uniforms were dark blue or dark black, and their parents should be ashamed of it.
