The guy who helped me with my Korean visa was super rude. I was trying to explain that I wasn’t sure what to write in a particular section of the form, and mid-sentence, he cut me off. He said, quite rudely, that he’d check the form first and would let me know if there was anything wrong. After looking it over, he didn’t say a word, just handed me the release form and basically dismissed me without any explanation.

I hope the embassy can look into this type of customer service. Not a good experience for someone like who is looking to travel Korea, and contribute to the tourism of the country.

Thankfully, I received my 5-year visa as scheduled.

1. They gave me a wrong passport pickup date

When I submitted my application, the officer told me to pick up my passport on 9 Oct (it’s also clearly written on the receipt they gave me.)

It’s a Wednesday. When I reached there, the consulate was closed for a Korean public holiday – a detail they acompletely overlooked when giving me the pickup date. I had to take a day off work for this, only to find the office closed.

My advice to everyone: don’t trust. Double-check that your pickup date doesn't fall on a Korean public holiday, especially if you don’t live nearby like me.

2. Poor Customer Service

When filling out my application, I had a few questions about the instructions on their website. When I called the consulate, I received only a brief “please refer to the website” response. Not very useful.

To make things worse, when I arrived at the consulate, they told me they needed a printed photo of my passport photo and rejected my paper copy, forcing me to return again to complete my application.

I’m sad to say that my experience at the consulate didn’t reflect the renowned hospitality associated with Korean culture.

This is bad for them as well because it’s usually a visitor’s first contact with Korean officials and plays a key role in shaping people’s impression of Korea as a country. I hope they pay more attention to their service.

Polite staff and efficient process.
I applied for a visa and the process is very straight forward (I recommend to go online and print the check list for all the documents required from their official website)

As a fellow reviewer mentioned, I agree they could improve by: accepting card payments (eftpos). But if you forget to bring cash, there is a 7 eleven nearby with an ATM machine.

Special note: In my opinion none of the employees are rude, they were friendly and even replied with a joke after I make a terrible joke. At first they were very serious and that is understandable, they are consular officers who sometimes deal with people that don't have all the documents required and could be difficult. For your own sake don't be one of them.

The attitude of the Korean young man dealing with visa applications was so bad. Minimal explanation and poor communication. Such terrible experience that I had today.

Haji is such a kind and genuine man, he went above and beyond to assist me, which I immensely appreciated. Now I understand the process thoroughly, and I feel truly grateful for how patient he was to help me.

I received great customer service by a young man working here. Although I forgot my bank statement when submitting my VISA application, rather than denying my application as a whole, he waited for me patiently and gave me 10 minutes to print out a statement. Highly recommended.

All staff members are exceptionally friendly, kind and helpful. My case was a bit unusual but they looked into ways to assist me and explained everything clearly. And the whole process of birth registry and creating a passport was very speedy. It took about 4 weeks in total. Very impressed and satisfied with their services.
