We’re from Victoria and had been planning our visit to the Gemfields area for ages, and it was absolutely worth the wait! The family who runs the Gemfields Fossicking Park is so lovely, friendly, and super helpful. They gave us all the tips and advice we needed, and their enthusiasm for fossicking made the experience even better. The price for a bucket of dirt was great value, and we couldn’t believe our luck – the three of us found loads of sapphires and zircons! The highlight was a yellow sapphire that’s big enough to facet, along with a few other stones that are also large enough facet. Everyone we met in the area was so welcoming and helpful, which made the whole trip even more enjoyable. We’re already planning to come back and try our luck again – and to explore more of this beautiful region. If you’ve ever thought about fossicking, give this place a go. You won’t regret it!

We tried another mobs guided day fossicking tours and where less than impressed, let's just say it we weren't fascinated. We had a crack at going our own way and getting lost in the fields, zero results. So when we landed at the Gemfields Fossicking Park we were dubious, but how bad could it be for the price. Well let me tell you it was great, David was a wealth of knowledge and was always present to lend a hand and sort out any issues. A great experience and a great way to end our trip to the Gemfields.

We really enjoyed our fossicking experience here. One of the few places that was open after midday! Since we had arrived then & were moving on the next morning this suited us & we were so glad they were open! The equipment was well set out & we were shown step by step what to do. We weren't expecting to find any gems but we found lots of little ones. The kids were stoked! Definitely recommend. We paid $50 for 3 tubs which was more than enough for 2A+2C. Was quite hot at midday in late April but you need to work in the sun to see the glint of the gems! So make sure to have hats, water & sunscreen!

We purchased buckets of "wash" and were well guided by Leanne and Debbie through the process. A bucket of "wash", sifting then through the "willoughby" washing process to then pick through the remaining rock to find our prize. We both came away with over 100ct each of mostly various colours of sapphire plus some zircon and garnet. We left with happy smiles on our faces. Thoroughly recommended

Such a great way to spend a few hours. The owner is a great guy, so patient and helpful getting you started with fossicking. Plenty of interesting stories from real mining claims too. Only $25 for a bucket of wash which will keep newbies occupied for ages.

Great experience, our young kids were stoked to finally get to go "mining" like the shows. He was great with explaining the process and the set-up was easy. Sandpit on the side was fantastic for when kids needed a play break (and we kept sorting). Found quite a few gems in our bag of wash. Would reccomend to a friend easily. 🙂

What a unexpected bonus for our visit to the Gemfields. It was a lot more fun than what we thought and Mark was patient & friendly explaining the process to us. We even found a few little sapphires to make it even more worthwhile. We would definitely do it again!

Lisa and I went here on a damp drizzley morning Easter school holidays and was the only park open. VERY happy it was, the owner was entertaining, informative and helpful (I am hooked and may move). Found some little stones ?Thanks for a great morning, we still haven’t gathered the grandkids to do the bag of wash we bought.
