My wife recently took our 8-year-old daughter to Googong Family Practice and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. Despite having a scheduled appointment, they ended up waiting over an hour and a half with no updates or apologies regarding the delay.

To make matters worse, the reception staff were rude, abrupt, and seemed reluctant to help. There was no acknowledgment of the long wait or any effort to communicate what was going on, which made the whole experience unnecessarily stressful — especially for a child.

We understand that delays can happen, but a little courtesy and communication go a long way. Unfortunately, we didn’t feel either were offered here.

I had a disappointing experience at the clinic today. The receptionist seemed uninterested in speaking with me, though she was friendly and chatty with some other patients. I’m also unsure how the bookings are managed — I arrived on time for my appointment but still waited 40 minutes to see the doctor.
That said, the doctor was very kind and apologized for the delay, which I appreciated.
I also recalled that I previously called to ask for an amended medical certificate to be emailed to me. The same receptionist assured me over the phone that she would send it, but I never received it.

I wouldn’t recommend this clinic, as there’s a good chance you’ll encounter this receptionist, and the overall experience may be inconsistent.

Googong Family Practice has been our go to since moving to the area. Our family has seen Dr Sruthi Ambur regularly for the last 2 years and she is one of the best GPs we have ever been in the care of. She is knowledgeable and kind and always goes out of her way to listen to my concerns and make the kids feel comfortable when we are there. On occasion we have also seen the other GPs and nurses for the kids immunisations and ALL have been fantastic. Shout out to the amazing admin staff and Jo in particular who always makes the process easy, is friendly and welcoming and goes out of her way to say hi to the kids and remember them. With 3 kids it is really comforting to know there is great medical care available in the area (especially during this horrible flu season). Highly recommend this practice.

My wife and I have always had exceptional care and service at the Googong Family Practice.

We’ve always found the GPs to be very thorough and friendly when undertaking their consultations.

I have heard medical appointments discussed in the reception area pertaining to seeing a psychologist which I felt uncomfortable about. Care in this regard could be considered for medical in confidence information. Have advised a sign to 'check in' would assist, as previously assumed I would be marked as attending from a call to say I was on my way (2 minutes away). I appreciate the staff are busy, and I do make an effort to be kind with stressful situations such as these.

The receptionist at this clinic is very rude and unprofessional. She seems to discriminate patients, as she was very polite to other patients who came in after me, but was very dismissive and unhelpful when I asked her how much longer I would have to wait. I had booked an appointment for 4:45pm, but I was not called in until 6:00pm. During this time, several patients who arrived after me were called in ahead of me. I ended up cancelling my appointment and leaving as I have a meeting at 6:15 and she did not even apologise. She rudely say its ok.

I would not recommend this clinic to anyone due to the poor customer service. The receptionist's behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the clinic as a whole.
I urge Googong Family Practice to train the receptionist or hire someone who is more customer-oriented or professional.

I have been to this practice for myself and my two children and each time have had a terrible experience with the receptionists not knowing how to use their technology. I sometimes need to lodge my own Medicare claims because their machine “doesn’t work” and there is a line to wait for the receptionists to figure something out with no acknowledgement while you wait. The three stars are for the doctor we see who is very thorough with blood tests and tuned in emotionally etc.

The doctor was lovely and helpful, she is the reason for any stars at all.

Unfortunately the receptionist is condescending and passive aggressive, which is not a very nice experience when you’re feeling unwell. It’s a shame that one rude person can ruin an experience and bring down a rating for a business. This practice would have full stars if not for this receptionist.
