Feeling very disappointed, this isn't an inclusive service from whoever is on phone calls on Fridays. I requested to access the trans and gender diverse legal services. The guy kept calling me mam and we hadn't even got into the intake form yet, I was in tears that I couldn't finish the call and went elsewhere for legal services. I feel bad for anyone LGBTQ younger than me trying to access this line. Please do better and train your admin phone staff members. It's distressing for clients who're already in crisis, to then have their gender carelessly assumed at a service that says they support LGBTQ+ people :(.

Wouldn't let me make a free appointment to get free advice on how to help care for my elderly disabled relative in their 80's who's on the pension handle legal aspects such as a letter of demand associated with a minor traffic infringment that she was involved in where someone else was at-fault because I was transparent and disclosed that I was a high income earner, and they discriminate against high income earners even though you're the most likely to make a bequest to them (but they'll help you if you're asset rich with more assets than a high income earner but smart enough to income streaming amongst your family so you remain on a low-income). Now I've had to tell that elderly relative they'll have to handle the stress and anxiety of handling the matter themselves. Next time a lawyer asks you for free advice about your specialisation, even informally, think about how sympathetic they are, and how and whether they'd return you the favour and give you their free confidential legal advice, and also first consider asking them whether they're a high income earner (or just anticipate they will become one), and if so quote them your hourly rate upfront with per second billing. On a previous occasion when I needed help for my own personal situation I didn't disclose my precise income to the person I dealt with at ICLC, but they didn't push me for it, and they actually still arranged an appointment for me anyway and they were actually helpful during the confidential appointment. In hindsight half of me is glad I didn't rush into making them a bequest after the recent encounter, but the other half is grateful that they do still try to help people who are really in need in the community.

I am grateful for their service and assistance with my query. I am glad I clarified some information with them in advance, otherwise I could have found myself in a sticky situation in relation to a work-related query.

As a general note to everyone, if you have any doubts about something, especially when it involves legal matters, it is best to take proactive measures to avoid any possible issues down the track.

Thank you ICLC, and keep up the good work.

Cancelled my appointment with less than 4 hours of appointment. Then messaged me back to say it was an accident. Apparently for the LGBTIQA community but forms don't include pansexuality. Also didn't help me at all and was just as helpful as using Google. Emails they send are in plain text and are unencrypted which is below standard of keeping client confidentiality and would not pass an audit.

Staff are polite at least.

I was facing serious criminal charges (over 7) while breached probation. They represented me respectfully in court (I'm transgender) and managed to avoid imprisonment and get most charges dropped. Only got three extra years probation instead of several years in jail for car theft, assaulting police x5, possessing implement for burglary. They saved my life.

Asked for documents. I send. Then rang me and made phone appointment. Then rang me again and changed appointment time. Then never rang me back. I rang after 2 weeks and they simply said they can't help me. Not very professional. Didn't recommend at all

I have been trying to sort a lot of legal matters out with assistance from ICLC. After 1 year of getting no where closer to resolving, and not responsive to any emails until i mention i will find someine else to help, and then again 6 months no reply for something pretty straight forward. I guess you need to be a criminal these days to get any form of help!!
