I've just finished my first placement with Lawmee, and it was a really positive experience.

It was my first time working as a contractor after a decade of working in firms on a permanent full time basis. I didn't know what to expect and so the prospect was a little bit daunting at the outset, but I was really impressed by how easy the team made it. The whole process - from our first chat, to on-boarding with the Lawmee platform, being matched with opportunities and carrying out the engagement - was seamless.

The platform is really intuitive and user-friendly, and I was able to view all opportunities as well as those that were suggested for me based on my areas of expertise and availability.

Within a couple of days of joining I was placed in an in-house legal role with a fantastic company to cover for a lawyer who was on long service leave. While I was there, an opportunity came up to extend the placement, and overall it was a truly great experience. I was paid for the hours that I actually worked, the work was really interesting, the people I worked with were fantastic, and there was none of the pressure and responsibility that comes with the long term management of clients and files. I was just able to get in and do the job to the best of my ability.

I think Lawmee provides a great opportunity for both lawyers and businesses providing legal services. It's great for lawyers where their individual circumstances might not permit a permanent commitment, but who are still available and looking for short term or part time options. Or for lawyers wanting to explore different practice areas or working environments (in-house, NFP, top tier or boutique etc) in a 'low risk' manner.

It's also great for businesses to allow them to deal quickly and easily with short or medium term capacity issues, such as where there's a sudden influx of work (new projects, large/complex litigation), or a resource shortage due to factors such as illness, turnover or extended leave.

I highly recommend anyone sitting on the fence to give it a go. You will not be disappointed!
