Our current attorney who did our estate planning several years ago retired. My husband and I were thus wanting to establish a long-term relationship with a local attorney to look after our estate planning going forward. As a start, we were interested in a review of our current documents to obtain advice as to what, if anything, may require amendment or updating. There were a few areas that we also knew we very clearly needed to update. We received an immediate response that they were not interested in anything but starting from scratch - plain sheet of paper. While that may have been where we ended up if the advice was compelling for the need to do so, it came across as a clear desire to over-sell with no interest in investing in a 30 min meeting to discuss or understand our needs -- and very clearly no interest in maybe starting with something small to develop a long-term relationship on something quite personal. Was a pretty surprising exchange for a "boutique firm" that prides themselves on customer relationships and service.
