I used Geoff under recommendation as my divorce attorney, by the time I realised he knew nothing about the Child Support Act I was too far in the hole. I should have sacked him but was in mediation at the time of realisation. I got absolutely robbed!!!! 7yrs later and I am still paying through the nose, he didn't even pick up on basic things written into the agreement, I was picking those things up and bringing it to his attention. I wouldn't have him do the most basic law work. Worst Lawyer ever!!!
He did give me a slight discount seeing how badly I got screwed, do yourself a favour and find someone else.

further to the information below i have been told by the legal services commission who is investigating him they say he has continued to to refuse give the signed contract and then after 8 months of demanding he supply it he said he has lost and cant find the signed agreement and then allowing him to back date charges for work not done or needed or given permission to do.
imagine a solicitor admitting he loses signed contracts. and there is a lot more refusing to give his itemised accounts and more. a year of poor traetement the way he treats my dead mother and myself. he also still refuses to pay all the accounts and finalise the estate of my mother and she has been gone for 20 months. its shameful he likes to play executors against each other to continue to keep the estate going when ther is no reason, it could have been all paid and settled a year ago and everyone happy but for geogg melvin and certain staff

i was using another solicitor mclaughlin and assoc they were completely incompetent. i talked to geoff melvin thought was ok but i am sorry but i gave him my mothers estate As executor and one of two benefiacaries I did ask Geoff melvin if I could have him as a solicitor to look after my interests and if the estate would pay the fees therefore not from my pocket i have asked for the agreement with him but he wont supply
He said yes it will be paid from the estate. The house sold in may he was paid in full for his accounts out of the settlement on 6 th june 22. In September he decided as some say from spite that I was saying I was not happy with him taking so much to do things selling shares when he knew he couldn’t and he decided to send me a personal account for about $4000 saying I had to pay not the estate. I was asking for months to get itemised accounts but he wouldn’t supply them. I had to pay another solicitor to demand he supply them. He is abliged to do this by law but wouldn’t. he is also not allowed to charge for it by law.
I have talked to outside accessors that say the fees are about 100 % plus over what should be paid and that will investigate and after 15% is reached that is not correct by solicitors they have to pay the full price of having accounts checked. I see a number.
Was I misled yes in several ways. He was supposed to look after me but didn’t. I told him for months before having to pay another solicitor to take action. He wouldn’t listen. If he had I would have given him a 5 star rating. The new solicitor is being asked to prepare law society complaint and accounts checked by auditors.
I trusted him with my mothers estate. I feel let down on so many levels. I guess this is the way he treats my mother and me. Just so hard to deal with mentally and physically after 14 months of pain. He has been giving advice to the other 2 executors who are not nice to block me from doing what is right for my mother.
