One of the most stressful and unpleasant experiences I’ve ever had with any business.

As a student lodging my very first tax return, I approached Opulent Tax Accountants simply to get a quote. I provided basic documents thinking I’d receive an estimate before choosing whether to proceed. At no point did I sign an engagement letter or give clear consent to go ahead with their services. Despite this, they went ahead and prepared an estimate a tax return and then issued me an invoice for $225, later increasing it to $288 after involving debt collectors—without my approval or any signed agreement.

I was bombarded for months with aggressive emails, text messages, phone calls, and legal threats from both the firm and their debt collection agency, Marshall Freeman. As someone studying and working, this was incredibly mentally exhausting and emotionally distressing. I felt harassed and cornered into paying for a service I did not agree to confirm.

To be clear: I never signed anything, never approved the final quote, and did not lodge my tax return with them. I ended up going to a different registered agent who charged me $120, and was transparent and respectful.

I eventually paid the $288 to stop the constant harassment, but I will never forget the intimidation, lack of transparency, and complete disregard for consent shown by this business. I genuinely hope no one else—especially a student or someone vulnerable—has to go through the stress I endured.

I strongly urge anyone to avoid Opulent Tax Accountants if you value honesty, ethical behavior, and professional boundaries. This experience was absolutely unacceptable.
