I highly recommend David and Perth Mediation Services as a viable, cost effective alternative to engaging lawyers and getting caught-up in the Family Court system.
In my situation we both wanted to negotiate and reach an agreement without using lawyers, we didn't have much money and what we did have we needed to put towards our futures, not into the pockets of lawyers. However, despite being on the same page on what we didn't want, we were unable to agree on what a fair settlement would be.
David's approach of working on a fixed fee basis, (about the same as what you'd pay a lawyer just to begin working on your case) gave us the financial reassurance we were looking for, and a simple process of an individual face to face interview, followed by a joint mediation session appealed to us.
Having been through the process, and come out the other side in a couple of months with a signed agreement, I am so glad we chose the path of private mediation and found David. His fair, client focused, collaborative approach; coupled with his knowledge of the law and excellent mediation skills, meant we were able to negotiate an agreement both of us could live with. When we got stuck on an issue he helped us find a workable compromise, with David on-board we both felt listened to and understood; we were able to break-through the deadlock situation we were in: now each of us can move on with our lives.

I would not recommend this service to anyone. I requested representation from David and went through the mediation process. As my ex partner did not respond to any contact I requested that I be issued with my certificate to go to court. A week later I get an email saying he can no longer go ahead with the process. He would not give an explanation and cited confidentiality. I am reporting the issue to the Australian Regulator.
