I utilized the legal services of Peter Speakman in 2020/21. I did so because he advertised that he was an expert in property law. I, subsequently, acted
on the paid legal advice provided, only to find out (some 12 months later) this legal advice to have no legal validity (he, of course denies this).
As a result I was forced to end my legal action, and consequently suffered a needless and considerable financial loss. I, then undertook legal action against Speakman for Professional Negligence under the Australian Consumer and Fair Trading Act.
This matter was concluded through a negotiated settlement at a VCAT hearing in February 2023. In the course of 3 years dealing with Peter Speakman - as his client, and then his adversary there is much I could say, but it would be hardly surprising that in the least, my opinion is that I would definitely NOT recommend the legal services of Peter Speakman.

We first contacted Peter Speakman for help with a complex Adverse Possession case. Not recommended. In my opinion Peter is slow to understand client issues and facts and even the most basic things need to be repeated. I came away very frustrated from the consultation without being able to get my specific question discussed and addressed. During the meeting I had to bring him up to speed on, and correct him on, aspects of regulations they advertise that they are experts on (for which I was charged!). He is however quick to ensure that you are very clear about his hourly rate and the amount of the bill he will be sending. I had to end the meeting quickly as I could see he wasn’t going to effectively work through or discuss my specific query (I asked 3 times and he deflected the question) and the clock was ticking. The session was of no benefit.
He appears out of his depth, not up to date on regulations and unwilling to admit it.
Good at billing though. The invoice for 18 minutes came through within hours.
