So, I went to Tax Tips. And OMG! So glad I did! John at the Wollongong office found glaring errors in H&R Block's tax assessments, and saved me over $400 in ongoing GST charges! Brilliant job, John! Been waiting over 3 weeks almost 4 for tax return after calling 2 times. Very rude telling me that I needed to be more patient even though they told me that it would be in my account by 3 weeks. Only good thing about the experience is the accountant we were dealing with was lovely. Front desk needs a bit of customer service work. Wouldn't recommend this place though.

Easy to deal with, within a 2 minute phone call and a half hour appointment i had my tax return sorted and in my account. I only go to the accountant once a year and they offer a good service at a fair price.

For my very 1st Tax Return in Australia I thought I would use Taxtips Wollongong mainly because of convenience. I have been working as a Security Guard for approx. 1 year now in the Wollongong Mall directly across the road from the Taxtips office. Having a name like TaxTIPs I thought they would give me the correct information I need to claim on necessary working accessories and items used for my position but how wrong I was.

Firstly to obtain a NSW Security Licence costs $750. I obtained my licence in February 2014 and was told I could not claim this item because it should have been claimed in the previous taxational year... but this is my 1st working Tax Return, I asked "so then how do I claim this back" no response was given.
BUT... he allowed me to claim my RCG and RSA necessary for CLUB/BAR security which I obtained in November 2013.

Also my uniform in my position consists of Full Suit and Tie. We must be well presented including cleanly shaved on a daily basis but I was unable to claim on personal grooming items and was told I could not claim on these items because only people in the modeling industry could only claim on these items. No questions about laundry/dry cleaning expenses for full Suit and Tie over a yearly period either.

We walk approx. 15-20 kms on a standard shift but I was unable to claim on comfortable dress shoes for working purposes only.

I rarely use a cellphone and have always used my 3G Samsung pad as my phone and obviously am unable to have this on me during shifts so I had to bye a cellphone. In the security industry safety is key so not only do we receive Work Calls and also our Rosters via cellphone it is part of our Personal Protective Equipment. I bought the cheapest refurbished (2nd hand) Iphone online and was unable to claim on this item.

Finally this experience cost me $154. Was I happy? NO. Would I go back? NO. Would I recommend this service to anyone else? DEFINATELY NOT...

Would highly recommend, staff was very friendly and helpful. Money was in my account by the time I walked back to the car. Happy with service would definitely go back

Omg I had a similar experience as well, he told me I could claim absolutely nothing ... I had even worked a whole year, and my income was under the threshold, so I should've gotten most of my tax back which was quite a nice sum, I got absolutely nothing back expect the amount that just covered my fee of $154... Scammer
