This is not a customer service town. In the absence of a Chamber of Commerce site I’ll leave my experience here.
Arrived for 2 night stay but initially booked in for the first night only.... good decision.
Caravan park booking was easy and the welcome was friendly however as we were to discover the TV in the open air kitchen can be heard across the park by all tenants... as can the well inebriated voices of the males using this area as a bar. Glad no children were around.
Visited the cafe for a drink. Our philosophy is to support local business. Cafe owner (woman) was very friendly and welcoming Howe the make ? Husband who was waiting on table should not have got out of bed with his grumpy attitude.
Decided to eat at pub that evening arriving at 6:05pm. Ordered meal and were informed that due to a caravaners gathering and large client numbers the wait would be 45 minutes. No problem we appreciated the heads up , ordered and waited..... and waited. After 60 minutes we queried if the order was on track. The waitress apologised and volunteered that the kitchen remained busy despite us observing patrons that had arrived after us receiving meals. After 90 minutes we again inquired about the meal and were informed that the order had been lost!!! Now this happens but no effort was made to remedy the situation other than agreeing to refund the amount. At the point of refund we were made to feel as we were the problem with no apology or recognition of the issue.
Sooooooo this town makes its tourism pitch on the shop facades and historic street scape. Our experience is that the facades are more than skin deep with business extremely lacking in customer service. Our experience in Westonia was very disappointing right down to the high covid risk environment of the pub where infection control practices were almost non existent. The senior bar staff disregarded masks early in the evening and the junior staff followed. At no time was any customer observed using the QR check in or providing vaccination status proof despite signage in place requesting both.
My advice...... do not stop and use the businesses in this town.
Needless to say we left after only one night
