Woods & Day Solicitors are the definition of rip-off merchants, preying on small business owners and hardworking Australians just trying to get by. Instead of offering real legal support, they operate like a cash vacuum—taking your money upfront, delivering next to nothing, and then demanding even more before lifting a finger.

I engaged them in good faith, expecting professionalism and results, but what I got was nothing but vague responses, unjustifiable fees, and a complete lack of transparency. When I asked what exactly they had done so far to justify their charges, they couldn’t provide a straight answer—because the truth is, they had done absolutely nothing of value. And when I refused to blindly throw more money at them, they conveniently decided they ā€œcould no longer act for me.ā€

This firm is a disgrace to the legal profession. They are the worst kind of opportunists, exploiting people who actually need help and then discarding them when there’s no more money to squeeze out. It’s the most Australian scam imaginable—bleeding small businesses dry while providing no real service in return.

If you want to throw your hard-earned money into a black hole and be abandoned when you need actual support, Woods & Day is the perfect choice. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and find a firm that actually respects its clients. Avoid them like the plague.

Found this firm on the internet and lodged an online enquiry seeking skip trace location and letter of demand service for someone owing me money. Received a call 13 January and was verbally told they do skip tracing and letters of demand. Was advised they should be able to help me but it may take time to trace the person. Quote was $500 roughly for both the LOD and tracing combined. They took details that I knew and said they would call me back to confirm we could proceed once they spoke to a senior lawyer. No contact for 15 days after that. On 28 Jan I phoned to follow up only to be told they had decided they wouldn't help me. When asked why, the person on the phone said she couldn't give a reason, they just couldn't take the case. Seems very unprofessional when the query was straight forward and I had sufficient information to trace said person. Not a good experience and a waste of 2 weeks of my time.

These are the bottom feeders of the entire world. I decided to get them to act for me as a small business that was owed $20,000 from an unpaid invoice from a customer they initially quoted me $3000 to act on my behalf to get the matter settled after months and months of back-and-forth. They have literally done nothing for me. They haven’t even acted in court. I have already paid them over $4000 and now they are telling me they are ceasing to act for me unless I put another $5000 in their trust account. These people are the biggest rip-off merchants in the entire world. Do not use their services. It is an absolute joke and a disgrace to an Australian culture to rip off a small business. You are disgusting.

Extremely disappointing experience. Communication was poor, and it felt like my case was not a priority. I expected professionalism and efficiency, but instead, I encountered delays, lack of transparency, and unfulfilled promises. Would not recommend

We are a foreign company and had debts to be recovered from an Australian company. Peter Woods has been extremely professional from Day 1. He gave us an appointment at a very short notice and met us personally to take up our case. His team Alex Blackie and Edmund Quinlan have guided us with all pros and cons at every stage of the decision making. They have approached in the right way so that our case was settled much earlier than we anticipated. The communication has been extremely prompt and we would highly recommend their services.

Wouldn't recommend their LOD service. This was a really weird experience.

TLDR; 1. They demanded the wrong amount. 2. After fixing it, the amount had a typo in the body of the letter. 3. They sent a conflicting due date. 4. They refused to call the debtor as it's not part of their LOD service.

---
Here's my email to W&D with censored figures:

"Firstly, we already established upon first contact that the debt was $X plus your LOD fee (= $Y inc GST). Understand the issue with email spam and you didn't receive my email, but surely that would trigger a red flag that you shouldn't have sent the letter demanding $Z the first time.

Secondly, upon fixing that error, your revised LOD showed a typo which wrote "Our client demandsĀ you pay the sum of $K to the following account" which shouldĀ have been $Y

Thirdly, the due date you demanded was AA/08/23 whereas my final invoice was dated BB/08/2023. Surely we could have clarified that before you sent it to the debtor.

For these three reasons I can tell from the debtor's point of view it shows incompetency between your office and my company. Evidently there's a lack of communication and clarity. Therefore, I insist a senior member of your office make one courtesy call to the debtor to take action. Please do so, to at least attempt to build credibility."
